The 17th Scotland Community Calendar for the school year, September through August, is being organized by the Scotland FCCLA and the Scotland Area FHA Alumni Chapters. The birthdays, anniversaries, and activities listed on this community calendar are up to you. The entries from the past year will be eliminated and we will start fresh so please enter what you would like to see on the calendar. If you would like to have your family birthdays and anniversaries placed on this calendar contact Linda Schroeder before June 26, 2013. The cost is 6.00 dollars for 8 listings and 1 calendar; additional entries are .50 cents each.
There will be story time every Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. And remember you can check out a downloadable book from home, so get reading!
We are gearing up for the Summer Reading Program at the Library. This years theme will be Dig Into Reading for pre-K through incoming 5th graders, and Beneath the Surface for middle school incoming grades 6-8. The dates for SRP are Thursdays--June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25. We will not meet the week of July 4th. Pre-K through incoming 2nd graders will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Incoming 3rd - 5th graders AND incoming 6th - 8th graders will meet SEPARTELY from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will be bringing their registration forms home from school. Please return these to school by May 15 OR to the Library by May 17. Remember the library hours will change to summer hours starting May 20.
The Scotland Saddle Club has brought back the annual Playday, this Sunday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Scotland Rodeo grounds. Signup for Playday events must be done by 1:30 p.m. There is a one time $5 office charge plus 3 dollars entry fee per event. Breakaway roping will have a 5 dollars entry fee plus 5 dollars stock charge. Playday events include: Lead line for 6 and under; Mutt N Busting for 8 and under; Musical chairs; Pole bending; Barrels; 4 man Barrel Race; Flag Race; Pantyhose Race; Four in Line; Goat Tying; Goat Tail Untying; Raw Egg Race and Breakaway Roping. Trophies will be awarded to 1st through 4th place in the 10 and under and payback for 1st through 3rd in the 11 and over. Come out and enjoy the fun!
Dawson Creek Golf Course will be having a Fathers Day Tournament on Sunday, June 16. This is a 2-Person Scramble with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. The fee is 40 dollars per person which includes 2 mulligans. Carts and lunch available. Call 583-4244 to signup.
Scotland will host their annual Sports Day, Sunday, June 23 in the Scotland Sports Complex. Activities begin at 11:00 a.m. with admission being $3 for adults and $1 for kindergarten through college students. Preschoolers are free. This event is one of the Scotland Athletic Association's fundraisers. Everyone should enter through the gate.
